As the 2010 emo kids now fully grown adults descend onto the Wembley strip there's a certain sadness in the air, the band that was the soundtrack to school years, break ups and even first dances is calling it a day. Something that many of us didn’t think would happen this soon (I myself was hoping for atleast one more album) is finally here, its hard to miss the You Me At Six fans in Wembley, whether queuing up early to secure a prime spot on barrier, queuing at the merch stall or just having a wander around, we all knew it was a night of sadness.
Opening with the ever so exciting Room To Breathe it was clear to everyone there that those 5 men were giving it their all and giving both themselves and the fans a proper send off after an astounding 20 year career. From that opening note there were tears shed already as the realization hit that this was it, this was THE final night of six.
Going into the classics of Loverboy and Stay With Me and the all too well known Stay With Me scream, this time it hit a little different, knowing that we wouldn't be getting to do it again, Wembley Arena roared with screams mixed with crying as everyone well and truly did wish that they would stay with us a little longer.
Crowd favourites Save It For The Bedroom and Take Off Your Colours provided the high energy jumping and sing alongs as it felt maybe just for a second this wouldn’t be the end.
Being the final night of six, some emotional moments and tearjerkers were to be expected and these were provided in the form of Give, Fireworks, Liquid Confidence and Take On The World. Throughout the evening you could just feel the emotion in the room of fans not wanting to say goodbye and a band that didn’t seem all too ready to be saying goodbye.
The evening wasn't without some comedy from front-man Josh Franceschi, while giving the story of how You Me At Six came to be before Liquid Confidence, we were treated to lines such as ‘what a flat horrible arse that is’, ‘you know if i start shaking my arse the room is gone’, and a personal favourite of mine ‘this is shit’. Atleast we know Josh has a future as a comedian.
Now as the night draws to a close, another classic, Reckless give the 2010 emo vibes and the known tshirt swing mixed with the lyric change to The Killers When We Were Young in the outro which still it appeared not many people realised happened (I myself absolutely screamed it).
Then it dawns upon everyone, this is it, the final song… Underdog, three and a half minutes and they will be the band formerly known as You Me At Six. There were tears everywhere you looked and when Josh said on the count of three scream Underdog as loud as you can it felt as though we’d be heard all the way across the city (I might of screamed so loud I lost my voice for 2 days)
Then that was it, the end of You Me At Six as we knew it.
There wasnt a dry eye in the house as an amazing and phenomenal 20 year career came to a close. You Me At Six, we thank you for being the band to soundtrack our school years, our teenage years, our breakups, our relationships, our friendship and even our weddings.
