Maisie Peters third album is one that has been long awaited and after two and a half years it is finally here! The extra week wait was definitely worth it. Maisie teased us with singles You You You, Audrey Hepburn, Say My Name In Your Sleep, My Regards and Kingmaker as well as doing a run of ‘Before The Bloom’ shows to give everyone a feel of some of the unreleased tracks.
Being one for storytelling we knew that opening track Mary Janes would be one that would set the mood for the album as a whole. As some of you may know, Maisie opened for the one and only Taylor Swift on The Eras Tour and faced a lot of backlash for the iconic Lost The Breakup bridge of which she addressed in her own lyrical brilliance. The rest of the track sets the tone of that she is very much in love with those that her fans (and herself) have named emoji man and that it doesn’t matter if people don’t think she’s the most conventionally attractive or youngest because she has the love of her partner and that’s what matters to her which is a beautiful way of looking at things in a generation that seems to prioritise the opinions of strangers on the internet.
Maisie made us aware that while this is essentially a love album there will still be some heartbreak songs which we all know and love. In ‘Houses’ she paints a beautiful but heartbreaking story of a romance that could have been if things had been slightly different. We had a sneak peak of ‘Vampire Time’ at the ‘Before The Bloom’ shows last year and earlier in May and it definitely lives up to the live version, telling a story of an almost romance, moving away then coming back to your hometown and hearing stories but going to see for yourself if it was true as they’re still on your mind. I for one am incredibly excited to have this on repeat for the foreseeable future after having the live version on loop for the last few months.
Closing out the album with ‘Nothing Like Being In Love’ it is a full on love letter to her partner at the start for all the ways he is amazing for her and in a way to an ex and figuring out that it wasn’t love with them now that she is fully in love, something of which a lot of us can definitely relate to. With the gut wrenching line ‘We weren't right, but God, we were good’ in the bridge explains how someone can be the wrong person for you but it can still be a good thing. With closing line ‘There's nothing like being in love’ it couldn’t be any clearer that she is fully in love and happy..
You can catch Maisie Peters live at her headline London show on May 8th 2027 at the iconic O2 Arena!
My Regards….
